update

well, things are moving too fast for words these days in the office! the phones are in, the awning is up, we've almost gotten all frames in, and today we booked our first appointment!!!!!!!!!! it's pretty incredible to think that we're about to REALLY open a business. sheesh.

tuesday is my next dr. appt., and we'll make the ultrasound visit then, which will hopefully be sometime later in the same week. HOPEFULLY!!! i'm looking forward to making sure we have a healthy little stinker, and i'm also looking forward to being able to shop for either pink or blue! :) i'm 18 weeks now.

here are some photos of our "featured" line of frames, face a face (french, pronounced "foss awe foss." i am in love with them! we have exclusivity for little rock. no one else can carry them. we're kind of a big deal. :) heeheehee. i'm also including an 18-week pic of my slowly growing belly, and some shots of the office. it's an absolute mess, but at least there's stuff in there! :)

snake-dove baby

either i'm perfectly normal, or very weird. I was reading info. on a website about being 17 weeks pregnant, and i read this paragraph on how we dream differently when we're pregnant:

"You're likely to be caring for baby animals. During the second trimester, many pregnant women dream about cuddly, baby-like animals, such as puppies, chicks, and kittens. Friendly creatures in your dreams are generally thought to signify that you're tuned in to your instincts. Menacing animals, on the other hand, may represent ambivalence about the strange new creature entering your life."

interesting. except JUST LAST NIGHT i had a dream that i was fighting this huge animal that was a cross between a snake and a dove. an human-sized dove with huge snake-arms.

i think this means i have NO idea what i'm getting myself into... :) although today, brian was getting annoyed because we were running errands for the practice all over town and i wouldn't "stay on task" because i was oooohing and aaaahing over every person under the age of 10, and made "boooopy-wooopy-woooopy" noises at a puppy in a car window. maybe my instincts are right on. this child will be like the snake-dove in my dream. a holy terror, yet the love of my life. i'm so excited and terrified. :) i guess that's normal, right? ........right, guys? ....guys?

"things always happen in three's..." and other sayings that have come true

upon telling people that this year we're having a baby and starting a business, they've always said, "well, you know things always happen in three's, so you better watch out!" brian and i are the least superstitious people we know, but i'll have to say they were right on that one. i got laid off at trio's. our only source of steady income= gone. on valentine's day. yes, on valentine's day. i had NOOOO idea it was coming. it was a bomb. i didn't know how to react, so i really didn't! until i came home and told brian. then it hit me, "i just lost my job??!!!!???" i've never been fired or laid off before, and it's a horrible feeling of hurtness. seriously, it feels like when you were 16 and your first "true love" dumps you out of nowhere. that sinking feeling like you've been punched in the gut...

now, that was how i felt on saturday night and sunday. today is tuesday, and i'm already perfectly fine. again, think of the 16 year old heartbreak analogy. it's like my boyfriend broke up with me, but i knew deep down i wasn't going to marry him anyway, so what's the point of staying? i honestly didn't see myself there forever, even though i LOVED the job. brian's been wanting me to go into the practice with him, but being at trio's and being on their insurance for my pregnancy was not allowing that to even be an option. well, brian has less than a month before he opens his doors, and has SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much on his plate right now it's ridiculous to think he's not in an insane asylum right now. my bosses felt bad for letting me go with being pregnant, so they're letting me continue on with their insurance until after the baby. perfection. now, i can help brian when he desperately needs me the most, i can work with him until i'm 7 months pregnant or so (where at trio's i'd have to wait until last minute...), then we'll find my replacement, and then i'll play mom/photographer to my heart's content. how perfect for me does this seem to be working out? this brings me to my next superstitious saying: "things happen for a reason." i don't know about all that, but i do think i'm a lucky girl to have had this happen to her. i'm so grateful to be able to help brian and birth this practice the right way, and it's been fun to show brian the "work kerry," because she's MUCH more organized and professional than the "delicate flower" you all know and love. :) heehee...

i can't really think of a saying for this next bit, but it's ironic and bittersweet, to say the least. on my last shift at trio's, we found out that we were named best restaurant by the AR times, and also voted BEST WINE LIST. now, this was MYYYYY wine list. i chose every bottle, i priced every bottle, i organized every bottle on the wine list that i typed out and printed on paper that i graphically designed, and covered with photography that i did. no one helped with this list. it was MINE! so, i won this award (i'm only being selfish about it because it's true!!!). in the 23 years this restaurant has been open, they've never even been IN this category of the AR times contest. the year i work there and completely revamp the whole beverage program, they win FIRST PLACE. i find out on my last shift. ironic, right?? "hey, thanks for letting us win, but don't let the door hit you on the way out!" no, really, it wasn't like that, but it's hard not to be a little smug about some things. they assured me i did a great job and i could clearly see they were genuinely upset at the task of canning the pregnant girl. although i'd probably go about it differently, i can objectively see why i was the first to go. i just lost a job, but i'll be fine. they knew that. if their business goes under, they lose EVERYTHING. i don't envy them. i'd rather be in my position than theirs. it still sucks that i had to go like this.... but, i am very proud of myself for the wine list, and for the job i did there. that's a REALLY big deal to me, and i'm glad to have that on my resume. i also gained a handful of great, great friends that i'm grateful to have. i don't regret a moment of my time there, but i'm also looking ahead with a lot of optimism for my family's future. saying #3: "the best is yet to come." hahaha.

okay, on to a new subject- kavanaugh eye care. here is a saying that does NOT apply to my husband: "good things come to those who wait." screw that! my baby knows what he wants, and he makes it happen!! :) things are coming along so well... and FAST! just helping him the past few days have made me realize that it was NECESSARY for me to lose my job at trio's. there is too much to do, and without having someone help him full-time, i just don't think he'd have survived this. right now is when everything has to come together- all i's dotted and t's crossed. along with phones that need to be put in, frames to be ordered and inventoried, insurance to apply for, alarm systems to set up, etc., there is an office full of furniture and equipment that has to be put together. our new target opening date is march 16th, and it's do-able, but the clock is ticking! i'm having a great time so far, and because my sweet husband wants me to like my job as much as possible, he's letting me choose the frames!!! yipee! some have already been chosen and shipped, but there's still plenty for me to indulge my shopping abilities... also, i shot some photos the other night of some of the products, and we'll use those in our ad that is going in soiree magazine. we're also going to print them on canvases and put them up on the walls as artwork, because they turned out pretty cool!

here are pictures of our place, and some of the shots i got the other night for the ad.

"if you build it, they will come." cross your fingers this one's true!!! ha! :)

another preggo-pic

it's 12:45, and i have no idea why i'm still awake. so i'm just going to post this picture of me. i took it the other day. on friday, i'll be 16 weeks. everything's just truckin' along! i'm feeling much better (for the most part), and brian appreciates me feeling more up to cooking actual food for him. :) poor guy has been suffering through nasty fast food for over a month now.

his practice is coming along really nicely so far. i'll post a long blog about that with all kinds of pictures tomorrow, if i have time.

my belly has grown, but not as much as i thought it would by now. i lost a few pounds between my first and second dr. appts, but it's not uncommon. i'm not worried about making up for it in the next 5 months... :)
